Concourse House Home for Women & Their Children

The poetry program fits perfectly into our mission, and it gives the women here a chance to come together in a very different way. Whereas they’re usually coming into the family services office talking about very serious problems and issues, this gives them the outlet to do that but in a more relaxed setting where they can come together as a group, learning from one another and supporting one another

Bronx Crisis Respite

Poetry Speaks for Us has been working with our program providing a poetry workshop for our consumers that deal with mental health and emotional challenges. They have been absolutely amazing, providing a safe space for all who participate. It is apparent that they love what they do. Their passion is undeniable, true lovers of art and all things creative, they have made poetry accessible to all, those who read, write and sing as well as those who never believed they could be an artist. I highly recommend them to anyone considering their services.

Bronx High Schools (quotes from teens)

It was amazing. I was afraid to talk in public. The poetry writing and spoken word helped me to not be afraid to speak.”

“When I arrived I felt very terrified to express myself but I got more confident and I got to do a poem and it felt good”

“It was something I never experienced before. I free to express myself, it was amazing.”

“I got to learn more about my teachers and classmates hearing their poem. I hope now I can learn to understand people and their backgrounds and cultures better.”

“It was awesome to hear people talking about their lives and experiences. I was scared but feeling good because I beat my fears and forgot my problems.”

“I hope I can continue being confident, expressing myself and trying new things.

“I would like to write more poems and recite them on stage
